Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis who is attending the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) summit in London says he will seek support from other alliance members to counter Turkey’s machinations on Greece’s maritime sovereignity, including most recently, when the Greek island of Kastellorizo which was specifically mentioned by a Turkish foreign ministry official.
The situation was exacerbated last week when Turkey, also a member of NATO, reached an agreement with Libya to delimit maritime borders in the Mediterranean. Over the past week, Cyprus and Egypt also condemned the Libyan-Turkish accord which, they say, is against international law.
On Sunday, Greek foreign minister Nikos Dendias met in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, to discuss the latest turn of events.
Mr Mitsotakis will meet with international investors on Tuesday morning (London time). Later in the evening, Mr Mitsotakis and his wife, Mareva Grabowski will attend a reception for NATO leaders given by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. Later in the evening he will dine with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at 10 Downing Street.
